I’m backstage at a ballet performance after performing a number in a royal blue tutu, but i had never practiced the routines. I know i’m supposed to be in a number with a green costume next but i can’t remember which one or when it is in the show. I’m running around backstage until I see Matthew, who is a stagehand. We hug and stand hip to hip, really close together, looking through the program to find what number i’m in next. He finds it and holds my hand, leading me around backstage to the stairs and elevators leading down to the dressing rooms. However, the stairs are flooded and there’s water rushing in and out of the elevator. When the water rushes out, he shoves me into the elevator and closes the door so i can get down to the dressing rooms. As it’s closing i shout to him to wait for me. I get down to the dressing rooms and find the green costume i was looking for laid out for me, but it’s different than i expected.
Dreams about performances, costumes, and stages often relate to feelings of self-expression, identity, and the pressures of social expectations. Here are some interpretations of the different elements of your dream:
Backstage Setting: Being backstage suggests you may feel like you're in a situation where you're not fully in control, or you haven't fully prepared for an upcoming challenge. It can symbolize areas of your life where you feel unprepared or anxious about how you will be perceived by others.
Royal Blue Tutu: The blue color often represents calmness, stability, and creativity. A tutu is a costume often associated with ballet, which requires precision. Wearing a costume you didn’t practice in may indicate anxiety about being evaluated or judged without feeling ready or qualified.
Running Around Backstage: This frantic movement could symbolize feelings of disorganization and confusion in your waking life. You might be juggling multiple responsibilities or facing a chaotic situation where you feel like you haven’t quite found your place.
Matthew and the Hug: Matthew, the stagehand, may represent support or a grounding figure in your life. A hug can symbolize comfort, connection, or emotional support. This person helps you navigate the confusion, suggesting the importance of collaboration or assistance from others.
Flooded Stairs and Elevators: Water often represents emotions. The flooded stairs could symbolize overwhelming feelings or obstacles that you are trying to navigate in your life. Elevators can represent transitions, and the flooding may indicate an inability to move smoothly between different phases, such as from preparation to performance.
Shoving into the Elevator: This act might symbolize feeling pushed into a situation before you're ready or being forced to make a quick decision. Your shout for Matthew to wait could reflect a desire for support or reassurance during transitions in your life.
Green Costume: Green often symbolizes growth, renewal, and new beginnings but the unexpected nature of the costume you find may signify feelings of uncertainty about what comes next. You might be preparing for changes or new roles in your life that don’t align with your expectations.
In summary, this dream could reflect feelings of anxiety and uncertainty about being assessed or performing in front of others without feeling adequately prepared. The dream suggests themes of support, emotional overwhelm, and the quest for identity in transitional phases of your life. It may encourage you to seek help and be open to unexpected changes as you navigate through these feelings.
